There are really just two types of applications that have appeared on Facebook: entertainment and utility. As an entertainment application, the Sharp Hue Team had fun developing miniGifts and learned a lot about what it takes to make an application successful.

BookAnt ® Textbook Auctions
The BookAnt Textbook Auctions application is an evolution of a destination-site called www.bookant.com. BookAnt is an application that helps college students save money on their textbooks by buying and selling to each other and bypassing the middlemen.
BookAnt definitely falls into the utility application category versus the entertainment category and is a significant proof of concept that demonstrates how businesses can monetize the Facebook Platform in ways other than just ad revenue.
